WHAT TO EXPECT
Have you ever thought of visiting a church, but didn’t make it because you just couldn’t take the step? Visiting a church for the first time is not always that easy, especially if you don’t know what to expect.
At Norris Religious Fellowship, we believe that it is OUR responsibility to make it as easy as possible for you to come to church. Therefore we take your concerns into account. We work hard not only to ensure that you ENJOY the service, but more so to create an atmosphere where you can feel at home and may be yourself.
In order to help you take that first step to come visit NRF, here are five simple steps that will prepare you for your first visit:
Step One: Note our service time and address
Our Sunday service is at 11:00 AM. We hold a quiet
morning service of meditation with Taizé at 9:00 AM.
Step Two: Arrive in time to give yourself time to
settle in we recommend that you plan to arrive a
few minutes before service starts. We have a parking
lot and there is additional parking across the street at
the Norris Middle School and along The Commons.
A few extra minutes will afford you the time to
“settle in” before service. At the entrance, our
greeters will warmly welcome you and hand
you a bulletin for the service.
Step Three: Relax and enjoy the service
We encourage you to be yourself and enjoy the
service. We have no rules, and you are not under any obligation to do anything. We want you to simply receive what God has in store for you.
Step Four: You're invited to introduce yourself. We kindly invite you to introduce yourself (and we also
realize that visiting a church may be a time you want to relax and be anonymous for a while). It's important to us
that you are comfortable.
Step Five: Coffee and Fellowship
There are light refreshments right after service in Fellowship Hall
FAQ's
Q: What denomination is your church?
NRF is a non-denominational and welcoming of all faith traditions. Our services are primarily Bible based with readings from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. From time to time, we also include readings of scripture and poetry from other ancient texts and worldwide scripture. We are committed to serving the community and helping people succeed in every area of this human journey by teaching practical ways of applying God’s principles to everyday life.
Q: Will I fit in?
Our church is a multi-cultural, multi-generational, and open church family. Whether you are a single person, a couple or a family, you are welcome. We hope you feel comfortable no matter who you are, where you're from, or how you live.
Q: When are your services?
We have two Sunday worship services. At 9:00 A.M. we hold a 30-minute service of morning meditation with Taizé. Starting at 11:00 AM we have our worship service. We celebrate an open Communion table the first Sunday of the month.
Q: How should I dress?
God is more concerned about your heart than your appearance, and we are more concerned about meeting your real life needs than how you dress. All manner of dressing - from jeans to suits, shorts to dresses - are welcome in any of our services. Just come as you are!
Q: Do you have activities for children?
Yes we do! We have Children’s Sunday School at 10:00 AM for all Children during the school year. There is child care available during the 11am service in the Nursery, as well as Children's Church available for kindergarten through second grade.
Q: What about parking?
There is parking immediately across from the church on Dogwood Rd and limited parking behind the church. You enter off Dogwood (just past the middle school circle drive) and exit onto E. Norris Rd.
Q: Will I be pressured to give an offering?
We NEVER pressure people (visitors or members) to give an offering. Our desire is for this place and the community to be a blessing to you. So rather than expecting you to give, we actually want you to receive something!
Q: Do you clap and raise hands during worship services?
We generally clap for solo performances and refrain otherwise. There is no hard fast rule though, so clap if you are so moved! We are a friendly group and our minister has a good sense of humor, so prepare to laugh occasionally!
